In Camera: Lady Gaga - SHOWstudio part 2

Here are some screen grabs of Lady Gaga being interviewed by Alex Furry Fashion Director of SHOWstudio.com

I personally was fixed for the whole 2 hours of the interview perhaps this was something to do with Gaga perhaps it was my own personal connection to SHOWstudio and the live interviews that they have done. OR maybe it was simply the fact that the interview was completely raw and Gaga herself felt quite free talking about herself, which was quite refreshing. However we never really know what is fact and what is fiction. Well watch the interview and decide for yourself.

She's more beautiful than any of the other fucking Euro trash nations. Her words.

The Considered Ensemble

I wrote this blog post for The Considered Ensemble yesterday. A Text based blog where you can view more descriptions of people various attire. Check it.

LEWIS ALUN DAVIES
Artistic Director, collecting images from unwanted sources collaging them all together to make new beautiful things. Making unwearable accessories for photoshoots and mirrorball armor for Lady Gaga’s dance troup. Spending to much time in artificially lit photographic studio’s and helping myself to fizzy water in their fridges. Down and out in London & Paris.

From head to toe: A light splash of Bumble & Bumble ’straight’ potion for my unruly locks. A dash of DIOR homme aftershave. Thin cotton vintage blossom style print shirt by PAUL AND JOE, with cream landscape, blue tree trunks and pink blossom, from Selfridges London. Pure lambswool Cardigan by PETER JENSEN in wine color. Round neck cut with no fastenings on front, bought from sample sale at Peter’s studio. Vintage CASIO gold calculator watch. Slim fit dark denim jeans by UNIQLO with 1inch turn up. Perfect fit for my overly long legs and slim waist. All underwear by AMERICAN APPAREL in maroon bought from the LA flagship store in down town LA whilst on vacation last autumn. Vintage Chelsea boots bought from a flea market in Paris. Slightly scuffed and worn leather just as I like them.

Lilli Maunula returns to London

I am very pleased that stylist collaborator and friend Lilli Maunula returned to London recently to take up a post as Senior Assistant at Another Magazine. Lilli had previously been assisting Cathy Edwards at Dazed & Confused and then went on to continue her studies in Finland. I began to wonder for a moment if we would see Lilli return to London again, but fiercely she came back a few months ago and fell in Love with London once more announcing her return in May. I'm looking forward to seeing a bit more of Lilli's subverted takes on the Finish style scene with a intriguing elegance not to be faltered with. I see Another, Gentle Woman, Bon, SHOWstudio and perhaps some more sophisticated pop/music acts as future collaborations for Lilli. For now we shall have to watch her tweet her thoughts though the voice of Another Magazine.

Rosie Knowles Signs out for Now!

After my day off on the Saturday I was back in the studio bright an early helping Alun prepare for the photo shoot for German fashion Magazine Sleek. I was very excited due to the fact I have never been on a professional photo shoot before and anything to do with high fashion clothes and shoes will always have my hearting pumping. After a quick trip to Tesco to get breakfast for everyone, I started to finish off a dream web capture which was going to be used for the shoot. The making was so simple but so effective I am looking forward to seeing what the photographs will look like!

Due to the fact that Alun was designing the set I was given the task of going to The Camden Crawl to dress Samuel Chase for his performance. At first I felt rather nervous because I would be in control of how Samuel would look. I found the Jazz club were Samuel was playing and waited outside to be taken backstage which was all very exciting as I passed all the people queuing to get in. The night went really well and I was able to take a few photographs.

The next morning I was back at the studio helping Alun tidy up after the photo shoot. I knew that later that day we would be starting the new project for Machine A which I mention on my last blog. At lunchtime another intern Amy was introduced as she would be helping out as well with this new venture. We arrived at Machine A very impressed with the space and the shop which was ultra cool. We met the owner Stavros Karelis who was very friendly and got painting the space black. When it was time to go home I was feeling very excited for Friday to see what everything will look like, I was very tired but happy because I had made a new friend in my fellow intern Amy.

The next couple of days we finished painting the room and started making the graves. Before we knew it, it was Thursday and time to take everything to Machine A for Friday. I was impressed with how everything was starting to come together and I couldn’t wait to see the pieces designed by Charlie LeMindu. As always organised chaos erupted on Friday with everyone trying to finish everything off, it was fun because everyone got involved helping each other out to get it all finished and perfect. And this is exactly what happened. The set installation looked amazing, which came together really well with the sound and the gorgeous naked women looked fabulous in their head pieces by Charlie LeMindu. Amy and I quickly ran to Marks and Spencer’s to get changed and before I knew it I had finished my two weeks with Alun and was drinking a Peroni with a massive smile on my face.

SUPERREFRACTION The Show

Superrefraction show at Vulpes Vulpes

I had the pleasure of arriving early at the Supperrefraction show at Vulpes Vulpes gallery today, I have to say it is not my forte to arrive early to any Vernisage but it just so happened I had a very busy evening and this was one event that I did not want to miss.

The show featured fifteen pieces of sculptural work spanning multiple disciplines all under the curatorial theme of Super Refraction.

'Super Refraction refers to specific meterological conditions in which the trajectory of electro-magnetic waves are bent in an arc approaching the curvature of the earth

As an unexpected and counter-intuitive property of the heat and moisture content of the atmosphere SuperRefraction plots an arc between the chance happenings of our environment and a deeper understanding of the everyday stuff which surrounds us'

'The exhibition returns consistently to an examination of our shifting relationship with objects. Takin a number of diverse approaches to making - investigative, critical, and playful by turn, the work yakes phusical presence, process and action to explore a number of personal and colective concerns. Thoughout, an ethic of openess and generosity prevails.'

I personally felt quite refreshed by the show, a good curration of six artists who's work sat well together and yet had a variety that kept you interested. It was a small show however and I would be very interested in seeing these artists progress to larger exhibitions. I think it is time that younger sculptors get more opportunity to exhibit and these guys are taking it into their own hands to create a more interesting show without an indulgent finacial backing. My photographs do not do it justice this is something to be seen in person. The show runs until June 6th 2010.

DIVA

I was sent this picture phone image yesterday from friend and photographic collaborator Christa Holka an article on her in this month's DIVA magazine features a picture of non other than myself dancing with a red headed vixen taken at Dick and Fanny a few month's back. Great picture Christa. To read the full article on Chrita Holka head down to your newsagents and get yourself a copy.

Machine-A & Charlie LeMindu

Last Friday we made an installation set for Charlie LeMindu's night of Horror's with styling by Anna Trevelyan at Machine-A store and gallery. Also featuring some whorish legs that have been around in my work quite a bit.

Special thanks to my assistants Rosie Knowles and Amy Simmons. And Season, Tree and Arianne for great performances.
