COVER GIRL - VOGUE FABRICS

The WERK Team have been hard at WERK producing a new night for a Friday at Vogue Fabrics in November called Cover Girl the night will be a glam, disco electro, pop night featuring a live Vogue Fabrics photoshoot where you can have your Cover Girl portrait taken by the lovely Christa Holka, I will be on hand to art direct you of course in case you get a bit stiff in front of the camera. That does happen!


Designer and DJ John Renaud will be taking you through the best of Berlin and NYC couture cuts, and then Milliners to the Stars - Precious Metal aka Piers Atkinson and Phillip Dunn will be spinning some  pop classics.

To finish the night creative team of WERK DJ's will take over with MC Special treats from costumier club icon Kirsty McKenzie, and finally myself and the fabulous Gia Gspot will close with some of our favourite fashion tunes! Lights, Models, Guestlist!

As part of the physical release of 'Disco Moment' by Bright Light Bright Light it was only fitting that we created some additional artwork to coincide Christa Holka and myself worked on a mini editorial for Let Them Eat Cake and Ashley Mauritzen was running an interesting interview with Rod Thomas. Disco Moment - Bright Light Bright Light - Out Today!

Today the talented Bright Light Bright Light releases Disco Moment digitally worldwide, this electro pop anthem is a must for every ones music collection.

You can find it worldwide on iTunes [UK link] [US link] and all other digital providers.

A full EP with a new b-side and remixes will be released on 19th September, but for now the track is up, the video is here, and the TShirt is available at the store.

We worked with Bright Light Bright Light to produce and art direct the art work for the single with Photography by Christa Holka and Graphic Design by we art you and Fashion by Lu Flux.

REVIEW OF 2010 : DAVID CURTIS-RING

I worked with ADAD on the music video Love Part II where we had some great fun with smoke, confetti and sugarglass! In the video there is a moment when a sheet of glass appears to break over Bright Light Bright Light and so while filming this part Alun and I were hovering above Rod with a sheet of sugarglass, poised, waiting for the go-ahead to let it fall! Eek! This felt quite dramatic at the time, to be dropping what seemed to like a piece of glass! We only had two chances to get it right but it worked out really well in the end. The sumptuous collage of textures, lights and varying colours that you can see in the finished piece are among my favourite things about the video!

I'm a London based artist working in set design, costume and props. My practice references mythology, elements of fantasy and mysticism and often features the animal as symbol. I'm interested in creating a striking visual language through an exploration of archetypes and a tactile, colourful and handmade aesthetic. I've just recently finished work on a music video for pop duo Muchuu where I art directed and designed the set and am now beginning a project with fantastic DOP Michel Dierickx.

I was sent this picture phone image yesterday from friend and photographic collaborator Christa Holka an article on her in this month's DIVA magazine features a picture of non other than myself dancing with a red headed vixen taken at Dick and Fanny a few month's back. Bright Light Bright Light at the Lexington London

We had the pleasure of working with Bright Light Bright Light last week at the Lexington gig in London, what an exceptional night it was The Fly gave it a 5* rating. And we were really excited to be able to be working on some stage set and lighting, we gave a taste of what is to hopefully be a lot more i the future for Bright Light Bright Light London gigs.

Thanks to Lynne Morris, Gemma Smith for all their help, to Christa Holka for some great live photography and a special thanks to Olivier Ruellet for some amazing visuals, that were not shown to their best due to some technical errors, however we are planning on getting super technical for the next Bright Light Bright Light gig, stay tuned for laser and hollograms gallore!

Summer Work & Summer Fun

Summertime in the UK can get a bit quiet, everyone jets off in search of Sun, going down to Greece or escaping to Ibiza, although I hear we are not as quiet as Paris in August!

So this year I was determined to enjoy the summer with a few fun projects. Going Low Fi, low budget or simply trying out some new things was my ethos. Here's a few things that we got up to.


Latitude Festival

I was asked to step into the shoes of Beck Rainford for a comedy Theatre piece at Latitude festival this year with the Time Cat's Directed by Hamish Pirie. It was a fruit themed piece and so Fruit Bikini's or Fruikin's were made along with Fruit Suit's and Cardboard Rocket's, The Kid's seemed to love it - And the Parents............well let's not talk about that!

I was lucky enough to have a great team with me, the brilliant David Curtis-Ring and Christa Holka. Some useful finds was that bing a performer at a festival is sooo much more fun, we got accesss all areas wrist bands, performance tent pitches and a performers bar, all o which helps with the festival experience.

Also readings by Vivian Westwood in the literature tent and the forest art gallery were equally as great. Unfortunately I missed the Johnny Woo Performance however good sources tell me it was amazing. Next year we hope to return, our mission will be to take our own club night. As unfortunately Latitude had an awful lign up of DJ's and club venue's appealing to the masses but really not breaking any boundaries, it all felt a bit too 'regional' post 11pm.

Gay Shame

I was asked by Johanna Linsley to perform in her piece for Gay Shame entitled House of Hysteria. It involved the punters of Gay shame choosing from a selection of Hysterical Women such as the Tragic Poetess the Raging Feminist or Pop star Diva and more. My Role was of the orderly greeting the punters and dressing them in their chosen persona, then flinging them into the spotlight where Season Butler took charge as the Doctor and gave them their therapy, I'm not sure exactly what she did but they all came back to me with a sheer look of enlightenment on their face. Johanna as the receptionist however was having to turn some people away as the que for the stall was becoming slightly uncontrolable with the ammount of punters wanting to see the Doctor.
